Introduction
We should now be ready to run our job on the laser cutter. Just to recap, we should have completed the following steps:
-
-
Before beginning the job, be sure to review the safety rules for this machine
-
The laser tube is a class IV device when any of the doors are open during operation.
-
Never attempt to defeat the door interlock switch.
-
Never cut materials containing chlorine, and be sure to verify the composition of any questionable materials before cutting.
-
Always be alert for laser cutter fires and know how to address them should they occur.
-
Never let the machine operate unattended.
-
-
-
Close the lid of the machine.
-
Ensure that all extra materials, especially flammable ones are removed from the machine.
-
-
-
Turn on the laser power supply by flipping the switch in the I direction.
-
The switch should glow red. If it doesn't, ask for help.
-
It is always a good practice to turn off this switch before working inside the machine, focusing, and setting origins.
-
-
-
Turn on the accessory switches.
-
Water: The water switch circulates chilled water through the laser tube. The laser will not operate if this switch is off.
-
Vent: The vent switch activates the blower to exhaust fumes from the inside of the machine.
-
Wait for all accessories to fully start before continuing.
-
-
-
Press the Start/Pause button on the control panel.
-
Be alert for laser fires while the machine is in operation. Review the steps for dealing with laser fires.
-
DO NOT leave the machine unattended without pausing the machine.
-
To pause the machine, press the Start/Pause button again.
-
To resume after pause, press Start/Pause
-
To cancel the job and return to the origin while paused, press Esc
-
The machine will beep when it has completed the job. Wait a few seconds before moving on to allow the ventilation fan to clear any remaining fumes.
-
-
-
Flip the laser enable switch to the off position.
-
Confirm that the switch is no longer glowing.
-
-
-
Turn off all three of the accessory switches.
-
PRO TIP: If you'll be cutting multiple jobs in succession, leave the Water switch on to continue cooling the tube between runs.
